QBWC1085: QuickBooks was unable to write to the log file. QuickBooks will open without writing to log file

Issue:

When there's a damaged or missing QWCLOG.TXT file, you may encounter errors such as:

  • QBWC1085: "There was a problem with the log file. QuickBooks Web Connector will continue without the log file."
  • Exception TypeError: Unknown name

Solutions:

If your company file isn’t connected to a third-party application:

  1. Sign in as the Windows admin to have proper access.
  2. Navigate to the folder:
    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
  3. Delete QuickBooks Web Connector:
    • Right-click QuickBooks Web Connector in the folder.
    • Select Delete to remove the shortcut.
  4. Restart your computer.
  5. Open QuickBooks again after the restart.

If your company file is connected to a third-party application using Web Connector:

  1. Exit QuickBooks and Web Connector completely.
  2. Navigate to the folder:
    C:\ProgramData\Intuit\QBWebConnector\log
  3. Rename the log file:
    • Find QWCLOG.TXT.
    • Right-click it and rename it to QWCLOGOLD.TXT.
  4. Reopen Web Connector and restart your computer.
  5. Open QuickBooks and sign in to your third-party application again.

If the problem persists:

  • If the error remains after following these steps, contact Intuit Support for further assistance.
